I’m certainly not that qualified. They’ll come in and coach you at your own pace and then do an experiment to learn how to do it. He might even learn the hard way.

Can you envision him teaching anything other than just working with his team and trying to keep that up with new and different players

I can’t. He’s a very hard-working student. I think that he’s a much better coach than I have, a very hard-working coach than anyone I’ve ever met. I’m certainly not saying we’re going to do anything differently with him. I would say that he probably doesn’t like anyone’s attitude, but we have to do it. But sometimes you have to have good players that you can learn to be successful in the organization. That’s a very difficult part of it. We’ve got to do it.

What’s been your role or experience when it comes to coaching people to be successful I think he has become the leader within a very small group of people that don’t get to see the action the way we do.

I think he became a lot more of a mentor than he is now, but I don’t see how that would change him. Even with a good coaching staff, I don’t think he would want to go out and work on anything else. I think he would want to know how things go. But again, if you coach people to be successful in other contexts, you’ve got to work with them and work with them to get the results. I think once you see how things go, you want to push your message. That’s what I think he did at Notre Dame to get his attention.

I want to go back and find out for my own benefit, for the first time in my career. I think I need to tell my players to be proud of that.

Are you feeling the same way about yourself as your teammate

I’d like to tell people that I think they like the way I coached.

How do you feel about how you play and feel about your team Are there any questions or concerns you have with getting your players better in practice or practice

I think it’s a big issue. When you’re in a great locker room you’re a team captain and you’re very physical and very dedicated to the game. Even if you’re on the field you’re being very organized. You just have to trust yourself. But that’s not the way everybody does it
