It varies but, in my opinion, every coach should get one session per week and one or two sessions per week. The more sessions you have, the better off you are. In your early days, you might use 3-5 sessions a day with a single goal but in your later years it becomes so important that you go for longer. For the past few years we have found that coaches are more comfortable with longer periods as you have an increasing number of days per week. Many coaches like to call it a Week or Yard. It is important that they make the decision not to have long-term goals. You want to win a Championship, qualify for World Cup (maybe), build something, start your business, and develop your family so you feel really good about where you’re going right now. They want to get you excited and try something new. Sometimes, after a long session, even a few, they’ll take a little more time to come up with something. The longer you have them work on something new, the happier you think you will be. It can be a lot more fun having new people in your life and having a new job, a couple of contacts, and a new hobby.

In the end, what kind of coach will I hire

It seems impossible to say definitively how much experience you have but there are a few suggestions. First and foremost, you should start with your basics knowledge (e.g., how to make an impact in a game, who to start the coaching job with, how to manage a team, what kinds of work habits to develop for an interview, etc). Then, you can use whatever methods you need to get you started and gain more skills through trial and error. You may have to choose one, but that is up to you. Remember that there will be people you’ve used before and that you’re better off having someone who is experienced, and will give you a good chance to use those training techniques (e.g., taking into account what they’ve learned, as you try out new things, etc).
