The answer, we thought, was Eminem. We started talking about him on Wednesday at 11 a.m. ETPT, when he released his third studio LP, His Lamental Logic.

I thought some of the songs from his first record, M.I.A., You Belong in My Life, were beautiful. And I thought it would be cool to make a rap song with someone, who’s been able to control all these kinds of songs, rap songs for a long time.

I felt like the most difficult part of writing that record was that I was playing it so fast. I knew that with this album with Eminem, nobody expected me to do that, he says. I was really thinking, ‘Man, this is so much songwriting. You want to show what you got Because I said, ‘This is it, and I’m playing this. The last time I ever tried to write anything was when I was 14 years old. This is what I’m going to do now.’

I just had to sit there and try to write songs that were interesting to my brain. I needed to be able to keep listening and try it. I started listening to Eminem at 16. I found a lot of great verses on his albums…it took me a while to really grasp it. I wanted to find out what was on Eminem songs.

Eminem’s music has already been sampled and sold at over 50 shows across the world, but his album, which now lives in Europe, has yet to receive a second run. He wants to bring the experience to a bigger audience by expanding beyond music.

I’m a huge fan of the music and I’m really excited about writing this record, he says. I wanted to make it the way I wanted it to be, but with Eminem, there is a little more control here. I know the fans who play and record those kind of songs on the record. It would help if I didn’t feel threatened by them, but I’ve been through so much. I haven’t felt the pressure, which is something people like to think. I’ve played so much more on Eminem.

Eminem’s latest record The Eminem Report will be out March 24 via Future. The full release date is also expected to be released on Aug. 11.
