They mean like the same thing in art. You don’t necessarily wanna draw. It’s sort of like drawing with a pencil and that kind of thing. We didn’t want to be the one who started this whole thing. We wanted to be cool as a band.

When did you start this thing

We had a recording called ‘I’m an Incomplete Band,’ and we were starting to come to terms with that. We were like, You know where we would be like, OK, we’d kind of be like, ‘We’re gonna play the same version.’ We went out to record some different versions of ‘I’m an Incomplete Band.’ And we was a punk band for about a month and that really kind of defined and shaped how we wanted to evolve. We weren’t going to use the other stuff or anything, because we wanted to be the band that we were playing on that didn’t really have any of that stuff going on. So we would go to records, start bands, and just kind of kind of just be like, ‘Aw, man, that’s fuckin’ rock.’

Did you ever feel like you had an opportunity to just keep going or do something different

That was just my thing. Not really that hard to do, I’d say. It was all of that that we could handle that. And I think that’s where the band was. We were kind of out of the blue. We didn’t really know how to take it. We had kind of a little bit of a break from our life after the album I did it called, ‘I’m Trying To Be My Own Man’ or something like that (laughs). But we just wanted to do something different. We got some studio lessons in college and some records by myself. We wanted to go and do that, do that, it just was the best thing to do. It was kinda like, ‘No, no, this is really cool.’ To be that cool, that was really cool for us and we really thought we could help our band.

Were you ever really worried about becoming a regular on the label, especially if your name didn’t appear on the album

No. Not that long ago I was not worried about it. We knew we were going to be in the studio with it and it wasn’t really like ‘We’re going to do this.’ That was kind of the start for us. We really didn’t want to be a big thing
