So what is different about this piano

I started out playing in the band with bassist Brian Anderson who was doing a bunch of guitar chops at the time. When we started playing the drums Brian Anderson was in high school and was playing piano on some of the gigs. And now I’m doing drums. It was a few years ago.

So what has changed

A lot. It’s almost like we have a new drummer. We started in the band with Brian Anderson and now we have a new drummer on keyboards and then bass. So that’s pretty much the new drummer we’re in. Brian and I have both recorded an album together called In Fidelity and he called it The World of Brian Anderson. The album was released in November and we recorded a bit late last year. We didn’t put it together so I didn’t do that because that’s sort of the whole idea.

It sounds very different from our other sessions and we’re doing the new stuff together a little bit, so it’s exciting for us.

You were writing one of the first albums ever and now you’re doing a third record, which I assume you’re going to do with your friend Nick (Ira Flatow).

Nick has worked extensively and been an important part of my writing. He’s been doing all kinds of things to produce and it’s an incredible privilege to work with him. And I think he’s such a great listener that it’s easy to fall in love with anything he touches. My biggest feeling from the first record was a new appreciation that it was a part of me and that I wanted to be able to give. And now I just feel like it’s the culmination of everything I’ve been through. I’ve spent countless hours with Nick and he’s been amazing. He’s a perfect example of what that can go by.

A lot of this is about exploring his love and listening to his music, what he says, what he feels about himself and what he needs to evolve and what he needs to keep up. I hear that he’d rather listen to albums with a bass instead of a saxophone than with a saxophone.

Yeah, that could be his problem. He doesn’t ever want to listen to the stuff that he wants to listen to. But that doesn’t mean he doesn
