How Many Hours A Week Should I Practice Piano - Learning Piano At 40
Learn-Piano ·The answer, apparently, is six to eight hours per week. That’s a lot to handle.
As long as you’re doing the proper thing, you should always be able to do it, says Dr. Rufus Gaudino, a pianist from San Diego who performed with Mozart and later joined Gaudino on two tours. And Gaudino seems to think that’s part of the reason piano-playing is so hard or painful. It’s a very simple issue, but at some point it is, he says.
Rufus Gaudino and Mozart were born and raised in Switzerland, and in 1965, after graduating from the University of San Salvador, they enrolled in a piano class at the University of New Hampshire.
Now as a student at the University of Pennsylvania, they have the first of many students with whom they’re working on piano.
With this class a year’s ago, the teachers and students took me through a program of three piano lessons that they’ll do at the University of Pennsylvania (now known as Princeton University), where pianists earn certificates in piano instruction. They will start teaching this April.
Gaudino, the former president of the American Academy of Teachers, was a graduate student in the class.
And Gaudino said that at first the curriculum changed depending on the subject matter and in terms of the piano. His parents were able to pick up on a change, he says, by taking a piano class with them for a year or so.
To his surprise, when you first see Gaudino practicing a piano, he says you see a bit of a pattern in how he’s practicing. His teacher says it’s the same as in the previous years.
And even at that point, he says, it’s still very hard to move through the whole program, because it’s too complicated. He adds that he’s really excited to play.
The teaching method has allowed him to learn so much, he says, but for now it’s just another one of these things that he’d like to put in place more. If he can get his parents or other teachers to give him more practice, he hopes to be able to get them to give him more piano practice.
Even if I had to start from scratch every eight hours in two or three hours of practice, that’s still an enormous amount of time, he says. I’m also going to
